The silver gods, golden idols, worshipping idols; what does it mean to worship an idol?  Why do we worship idols?  Because someone besides god created them, we become dependent on the creator of these idols.  We become afraid of losing money, we become afraid of losing our status, our friends, I mean what will everyone think of us if we tell the truth.  What will everyone say if we don't worship the idol they do, what if we lose everything we worked for if we go against that idol.  God asks us to put him first, he commands us to put no other gods before him.  This is where we learn true discipline in Jesus Christ.  When we can go against the crowd or the grain and put God first we learn true discipleship
