The Jewish people got their own King murdered by sinning against him, spreading rumors, lying, refusing his teachings, and then watching him perish.  This is a part of the forbidden fruit, we sin, we where born into sin, we are told if we touch it we will surely die and then we touch it.  Jesus died because we ate the forbidden fruit, if we reject sin and accept him, we can be born again!  This is the good news.
