Faith is believing in something you can't see.  It is pushing doubt away and saying that if it is meant to work out in your favor it will.  It is this faith that Jesus displayed during the crucifixion.  He could have stopped it, instead he prayed for God's will to be done.  He put his faith in the one who created him in his image that his plan with perfect and faultless.  Just as Pylant could find no fault in Jesus, neither did his father.  Paul said, "the righteous will live by faith."  In a world full of godless & wicked people, our faith gives us connection to eternal power and the divine nature of Jesus and his faith.  He called us to walk by faith and not sight,  so that we may receive peace that surpasses all understanding.
